天雲寺位於智異山求禮以北，建於統一新羅時期，是智異山三大佛教寺院之一。天雲寺據說是興德王3年（西元828年）由印度僧人德坤和僧魯僧人建造的。由於最初坐落在如晨露般潔淨冰涼的泉水旁，這座寺廟也被稱為甘羅薩（Gamrosa），意為「甘露寺」。據說泉水可以淨化身體和靈魂，吸引了大批佛教僧侶前往寺廟參拜。忠烈王統治時期，該寺被評為南方第一寺。
該寺廟在臨津戰爭（1592-1598）期間被燒毀，後來重建並更名為天雲寺。相傳在重建寺廟時，常有一條大蛇從泉水中出來。當蛇最終被捕獲並殺死時，泉水突然乾涸了。因此得名“Cheoneunsa”，意思是“泉水消失”。 |
