伽雲寺址是由 7 世紀末統一百濟和高句麗的新羅國王文武王（公元 661-681 年）建造的。寺廟遺址的目的是祈求佛陀的幫助和指引，抵禦日本的侵略。不幸的是，文武王在寺廟建成之前就去世了，留下遺囑將其火葬並埋在東海，以便他轉世為海龍以保護國家。文武王的骨灰如他所願，撒在東海大王岩。這座寺廟由他的兒子神文王（公元 681-692 年）建造並命名，以表達對父親的尊重和讚賞。
經過兩年的考古研究，發現了寺雲寺址的地基，並於1979年重建。寺址內的三層石塔是新羅統一初期的遺跡，由多個部分組裝而成，高達13.4m，被譽為新羅最高的三層塔。 |
