華巖寺位於朝鮮王朝學者兼文學家金正熙的故居附近，也稱他的筆名「秋舍」。該寺廟與古代作家有淵源，因為據說該寺廟是由金正熙的曾祖父修復和翻新的。華巖寺的創建歷史沒有任何記錄，僅在修德寺博物館內展示的「華巖寺重修記錄」牌匾上可以找到重建的時間線。時間線由金明熙於1848年記錄，金成熙撰寫，曹錫信雕刻。 「華巖寺」這個名字是英祖（1724-1776 年在位）所賜。
