德住寺是曹溪宗第五區總寺法住寺的分寺。據信這座寺廟是由新羅王國最後一位公主德州公主於公元 597 年建立的。根據傳說，德州公主與真宜王子一起在此居住，並建造了這座寺廟，並以自己的名字命名，並在附近建造了洞穴。然而，沒有任何記錄可以證實或反駁這些說法。
這座寺廟曾經矗立在德住寺石刻立佛（寶物）前，但在韓戰期間被燒毀。現在的寺廟建築距離原寺廟遺址約1.7公里，是1970年代重建的結果。 |
