藥賢天主教會是高宗23年（1886年）韓國獲得宗教自由以及隨後天主教人口增加的結果而建立的。 1891年，明洞天主教堂主祭Doucet在合洞奠基。副主教科斯特負責設計和建造，這座建築最終於 1892 年竣工。這是因為教堂所在的地方曾經是一片長滿藥草的丘陵地帶。後來，藥田縣簡稱為藥縣，成為馬里洞和首爾站之間的丘陵地區的名稱。
藥賢天主教堂是韓國第一座西式教堂。它的哥德式建築特點是寬12公尺、長32公尺的十字形結構，帶有低拱形窗戶和尖拱門。 |
