伽云寺址是由 7 世纪末统一百济和高句丽的新罗国王文武王（公元 661-681 年）建造的。寺庙遗址的目的是祈求佛陀的帮助和指引，抵御日本的侵略。不幸的是，文武王在寺庙建成之前就去世了，留下遗嘱将其火葬并埋在东海，以便他转世为海龙以保护国家。文武王的骨灰如他所愿，撒在东海大王岩。该寺庙由他的儿子神文王（公元 681-692 年）建成并命名，以表达对父亲的尊重和赞赏。
经过两年的考古研究，发现了寺云寺址的地基，并于1979年重建。寺址内的三层石塔是新罗统一初期的遗迹，由多个部分组装而成，高达13.4m，被誉为新罗最高的三层塔。 |
