峰精寺据信是由义相大和尚于 672 年建造的。然而，其他文献似乎表明该寺庙是由义相和尚的弟子Neungin Daedeuk建立的。朝鲜战争期间，许多与寺庙有关的文献被毁，很多历史资料都丢失了。 1972年，在极乐殿重建工程中，发现了极乐殿于1363年修复的记录。这一发现有力地证明了极乐殿是韩国最古老的木结构建筑。
