만경대는 동해시청에서 동쪽으로 1km 떨어진 동해안 바닷가에 위치해 있으며, 조선이 광해군 통치하던 1613년에 건립되었습니다. 그러나 이 누각은 폭풍우로 인해 파괴되었다가 약 60년 전 삼척 김씨 가문에 의해 재건되었습니다. 동쪽으로는 바다의 멋진 전망을 제공하는 동시에 북쪽으로는 드넓은 소나무 숲의 상쾌한 전망을 제공합니다. 서쪽을 바라보면 정자 뒷마당 너머로 두타산의 절경이 보이고, 가파른 절벽을 따라 동해로 흘러가는 전천천이 펼쳐진다. 삼척의 죽서루만이 그 풍경과 일치하여 옛날 시인들이 만경대를 자주 찾았다고 한다.
