적벽강 일대는 천연기념물인 마치루스가 서식하는 등 식물 분포 가치가 매우 높은 지역이다. 절벽은 채석강, 격고해수욕장 등 인근 명소를 방문할 때 지질학적, 생태학적 교육의 순간을 보내기에 좋은 장소이다. 절벽의 대부분은 화산 유문암과 퇴적암 셰일이 합쳐져 형성된 독특한 암석인 페퍼라이트로 구성되어 있습니다.
