하태도는 밀양 박씨 박행서가 대흑산도에서 이주해 처음 정착한 것으로 알려져 있다. 이 섬은 식용 해초가 풍부한 3개의 섬 중 최남단 섬이라 붙여진 이름이다. 인근 해역에 서식하는 다양한 어류 외에도 수많은 어민들이 모여드는 섬이며, 김을 비롯한 식용 해조류의 대량 생산지로도 알려져 있습니다. 섬 주민들의 대부분은 어업으로 생계를 유지하고 있지만, 푸른 목초지에서 풀을 뜯고 있는 흑염소도 종종 목격됩니다. 하태도의 해변은 길이가 300m에 불과하지만 깨끗한 아름다움을 자랑합니다.
