면앙정은 담양군 제봉산 기슭에 자리잡고 있다. 이 누각은 1533년 송순(宋孫, 1493~1583)이 시를 짓던 곳으로 건립하였다. 건립 후 선비와 지식인의 만남의 장소로 활용되었으며, 천원권 지폐에 등장하는 대표적인 유학자 이황(1501~1570)도 자주 드나들었다.
면앙정의 지붕은 원래 갈대, 짚, 풀 등 비바람을 견딜 수 없는 재료로 만들어졌습니다. 여러 번의 수리 끝에 건물은 오늘날의 목조 구조로 발전했습니다. 정자 뒤쪽에서는 산맥이 보이고, 넓은 들판이 펼쳐져 있습니다. 누각 벽면을 장식한 나무 판넬에는 저명한 선비들의 시가 새겨져 있습니다. |
