명동성당은 서울대교구의 성당이자 한국 천주교 공동체의 탄생지이기도 하다. 교회에는 Laurent Joseph Marie Imbert 주교(1796-1839), Peter Simon 신부(1803-1839), James(Jacques Honor Chastan, 1803-1839) 및 Pourthie Jean Antoine Charles(1830-1866) 등 여러 개인의 유해가 보관되어 있습니다. 그리고 네 명의 순교자.
명동성당은 서울 시내에 위치해 있어 관광객들이 자주 찾는 곳이다. 성당 근처에는 한국 전통 가옥이 잘 보존된 남산골한옥마을, 서울이 내려다보이는 N서울타워, 다양한 먹거리와 물품을 판매하는 전통시장인 남대문시장 등 관광명소도 있다. |
