백련사는 덕유산 구천동계곡 상류에 자리잡고 있다. 신라시대 이곳에 흰 연꽃이 피었다고 하여 백련사라 불렸다고 한다. 무주 구천동 일대에 창건된 14개 사찰 중 유일하게 남아 있는 사찰이다. 사찰 입구에서 백련교를 건너면 돌계단이 나온다. 맨 위에는 주요 성소가 있습니다. 본당의 웅장함과 아름다움은 산과 잘 어우러져 있습니다. 본당 내부에 있는 목조삼존불석불은 조선후기에 제작된 것으로 추정된다. 명부전을 지나면 백련사의 사적비 묘비가 있는데, 서예의 솜씨가 매우 높이 평가된다.
