무주 지전마을의 옛 성벽은 대부분 사람의 출입을 막기보다는 집과 집 사이의 경계를 표시하기 위해 쌓은 것이다. 처음에는 진흙과 자연석으로 벽을 쌓았지만 나중에는 사각형 모양의 돌을 시멘트로 접착하고 그 위에 한식 기와를 얹은 형태로 바뀌었습니다. 담장은 마을의 전통 가옥과 유유히 흐르는 남대천과 조화를 이루고 있다.
