龍興宮は、哲宗 (在位 1849 ～ 1863 年) が即位する前に住んでいた場所です。哲宗4年に江華郡長チョン・ギセが元の邸宅を増築して龍興宮(昇り竜の宮殿の意味)と名付けました。その建築上の特徴としては、パルジャク (伝統的な韓国の半寄棟屋根) と柱心法で表現された支柱、柱ブラケットは柱の上部にのみ配置されていることが挙げられます。昌徳宮の永慶堂や楽善斎などの住居の伝統を受け継いで建てられた宮殿で、宮殿の建物は簡素で質素な雰囲気を漂わせています。宮殿の境内には、この宮殿が哲宗の旧居であったことを示す記念碑と記念館があります。
