高城郡徳明里の古代化石遺跡は、世界最大級の白亜紀恐竜化石遺跡の一つである。ここには、さまざまな古代種の膨大な量の足跡があり、これまでに発見された中生代の鳥類の中では最大の足跡もあります。さまざまな先史時代の地層は、恐竜の生活パターン、古代の自然環境と地層、海と陸の分布、鳥類の進化に関する学術研究の貴重な場所となっています。美しい閑麗島(ハンリョスド)が点在する海岸線、独特の奇岩や断崖、海食洞などの雄大な景観を楽しめる観光名所でもある。
