開岩寺は、百済時代の 634 年に建立された静かな小さな寺院です。 「開岩」という名前の由来は、紀元前282年、辰韓・馬韓連合の反乱の際、弁韓連合の文王がこの地に避難したことに遡ります。文王の命令により、新しい要塞のための寺院が谷の東側と西側に建てられました。西側の寺院はガイアムと呼ばれていました。 676 年に寺院は拡張され、1276 年にはさらに 30 の建物が建てられ、壮大な寺院に拡張されました。
