GANGWON-DO WEATHER
It is a nearby valley that became famous because Kim Satgat’s tomb is located there. Relics related to Kimsatgat are scattered in the border area between southern Gangwon-do and Chungcheongbuk-do. There is a house site in Seonraegol (Seonrak-dong), Eodun-ri, Hadong-myeon, Yeongwol-gun in the north across Namdaecheon (南大川), and a tomb in nearby Norumok in Waseok-ri. And a commemorative monument was erected at the border of Yeongchun-myeon, Danyang-gun, across the stream. Recently, as literary and historical interest in Kim Sat-gat has increased, the number of hikers and tourists visiting this area has increased, leading to Daeyari - nearby Madae Mountain (1,052m above sea level, a mountain that forms the border of the three provinces of Gangwon-do, Chungbuk, and Gyeongbuk) - Kim Sat-gat's birthplace - Kim Sat-gat Cemetery Station Hiking trails connecting are being developed, and Gombong Peak (a peak shaped like a bear) is also becoming more frequented. Waseok-ri is a small, remote village with about 10 households that preserves the atmosphere of the old countryside.

Kim Satgat Valley has such outstanding scenery that Kim Satgat called it “Mureunggye” during his lifetime. Although it has not been designated as a tourist site, it boasts of being a clean area, free from pollution and well-preserved. The woodpeckers of the nearby Naeri Valley, the woodpeckers on the way up to Jeokbyeolbogung of Beopheungsa Temple, and the otters, eagle-owls, geese, golden eagles, small owls, owls, kestrels, and flocks of ducks that live where the Donggang and Seogang flows around strange rocks, etc.
It proves that it is an ecological museum as it is. Yeongwol-gun alternates between this valley and nearby valleys, such as Naeri Valley, for a year of rest, so you must check before departing.

* About Kim Satgat, Korea’s greatest pungryu poet *

Kim Satgat's real name is Byeong-yeon (炳淵) and his pen name is Nan-go (蘭皐). Born in Hoedong-myeon, Yangju-gun, Gyeonggi-do, on March 13, 1807 (7th year of King Sunjo's reign), Kim Sat-gat was 6 years old when his grandfather, Kim Ik-sun, served as Seoncheon-busa. After being dethroned for failing to suppress the Hong Gyeong-rae Rebellion and instead surrendering, he moved to Goksan, Hwanghae-do. After moving around Gapyeong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, and Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, he settled in Samok-ri, Yeongwol, where he lived slash-and-burn.

The teacher, who grew up without knowing his grandfather's whereabouts, said at the Baekiljang held in Yeongwol-dongheon at the age of 20, "Praise the loyalty of Jeong, the governor of Gasan who died during the Hong Gyeong-rae Rebellion, and condemn Kim Ik-sun, who surrendered."通于天 won a prize in the examination titled Hyangsi (鄕試). When his mother, who heard this news, found out that Kim Ik-sun was his grandfather, he gave up his career as a government official, wearing a hat and living a wandering life because he could not look up at the sky because he had dishonored his ancestors. Kim Satgat wandered around the country and begged until he passed away at the age of 57. The place he visited in his later years with his exhausted body was Guam-ri, Dongbok-myeon, Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do. He was fascinated by the famous "Jeokbyeok (赤璧)" there and ended his life here without going anywhere else. Later, his second son moved him to his hometown in Yeongwol and was enshrined here at Kimsatgat Tomb.
