Geumjeonsan Mountain (668m above sea level), located in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, is a rocky mountain formed by a ley line extending from Jogyesan Mountain and flowing south through Godongsan Mountain. The old name of this Geumjeonsan Mountain was Soesan Mountain, but it is said that it was changed to Geumjeonsan Mountain about 100 years ago. If you translate the Chinese character literally, it means a mountain of money made of gold. However, in fact, it is a name derived from Buddhism. Geumgangam monks say, “We took the name of the mountain from Geumjeon Bhikkhu, one of the five hundred monks (or five hundred arhats), who were outstanding disciples of Buddha.”

Geumgangam is Baekje. It was founded during the reign of King Wideok. Seungjuhyangji Temple reports that Geumdunsa Temple was founded in 583, the 30th year of King Wideok's reign, and that Master Uisang later rebuilt it as a great temple with about 30 temples, including Geumgangam, Sujeongam, and Munjuam. The current Geumdunsa Temple was rebuilt as a Seonwon temple in 1985 and belongs to the Taego Order, and Geumgangam is a sandstone of the Jogye Order belonging to Songgwang Temple.
