JEOLLANAM-DO WEATHER
Wolchulsan Mountain is a mountainous national park at the southernmost tip of the Korean peninsula that, befitting its name, “Mountain Where the Moon Rises,” combines beautiful natural scenery, outstanding cultural resources, and the local atmosphere of the South. Wolchulsan Mountain, which is shaped like a bulge that protrudes from the plain while the Sobaeksan Mountain Range flows into the sea in front of Mokpo, is made up of such strangely shaped rocks that the entire mountain, with Cheonhwangbong Peak (810.7m) at its center, can be said to be an exhibition hall for Sukseok. It is also the birthplace of Dr. Wang In of Baekje and State Preceptor Doseon of the late Silla Dynasty, and is called the salt river mountain of Honam. Also, centered around Cheonhwangbong Peak, there is the elegant Muwisa Temple to the south and Dogapsa Temple to the west. There are many cultural assets, including the Gate of Liberation at Dogapsa Temple, the Geungnakjeon Hall at Muwisa Temple, and the Rock-carved Buddha Statue.

Dogapsa Temple, the entrance to Wolchulsan Mountain. After going up for about 5km, you will reach Gujeongbong (九井峰), which is shaped like nine strange complexes and is said to have been home to a dragon because there is always stagnant water. If you go down about 500m, you will find the rock-carved seated Buddha statue, which has been designated as a national treasure. When you climb to the top of Wolchulsan Mountain, there is a flat rock that can seat about 300 people at the same time. Wolchulsan Mountain’s cloud bridge also offers another charm. This bridge is the longest skybridge in Korea, built 120m above the ground, with a length of 52m and a width of 0.6m.

In the valley on the mountainside to the left of Sajabong Peak, you can see the spectacular Chilchi Falls, where water falls as many as seven times in succession. You can see the reed fields of Miwangjae on the road leading down to Dogapsa Temple and Muwisa Temple, creating a spectacular scenery in the fall. In particular, the sunset view with the West Sea in the background is so beautiful that it cannot be expressed in words. It boasts diverse and unique appearances throughout the year, including azaleas and azaleas in full bloom in the spring, cool waterfalls and fog hanging over Cheonhwangbong Peak in the summer, autumn leaves in the fall, and snowy scenes in the winter.

Wangin (王仁) ) Dogapsa Temple, located on the way up to Gujeongbong Peak from the Baksa historical site, is said to be a temple founded by State Preceptor Doseon during the Goryeo Dynasty. There are prose works such as Haetalmun (National Treasure), Stone Seated Buddha (Treasure), and Monument to State Preceptor Doseon Sumiseon (碑). The surrounding area is lush with cypress and bamboo, and tourists flock here for the cool summer weather and autumn leaves in late fall. Geumneung Gyeongpodae (金陵鏡布臺) in the southern valley of Wolchulsan Mountain is a famous place, and nearby is Wolnamsa Temple (月南寺址), where the Mojeon Stone Pagoda (treasure), Wolnamsa Temple Site Stone Monument (stone monument), etc. There are cultural assets. To the southwest, there are Geungnakjeon Hall of Muwisa Temple (National Treasure) and Pyeonggwangtapbi Stele of Great Master Seongak (Treasure).
