JEOLLANAM-DO WEATHER
It is a temple located within Naejangsan National Park and is said to have been founded during the reign of King Mu of Baekje (AD 632). The scenery is very beautiful, with clear, cold valley water flowing down on either side of the huge rock in the background. It offers beautiful scenery that changes throughout the year, including autumn foliage. Daeungjeon, Geungnakbojeon, and Four Heavenly Kings Gate are local cultural assets, and Soyo Daesa Stupa is designated as a treasure. When you pass through the forest path lined with oak and maple trees and enter the entrance of Baekyangsa Temple, the first thing that catches your eye is Ssanggyeru. In front, there is a pond blocking the valley, and in the back, a strangely shaped cliff stands like a folding screen, and the sight of Ssanggyeru pavilion fluttering in the pond water is like a painting. After passing Ssanggyeru, you will see Daeungjeon, Geungnakbojeon, and stupa. Baekyangsa Temple was Baekamsa Temple when it was founded, but was changed to Jeongtosa Temple during the Goryeo Dynasty. It is said that during the Joseon Dynasty, whenever the founder of Hwanyang read Buddhist scriptures, a white sheep listened to the sermon, so it was called Baekyangsa Temple. It was famous for its excellence and produced many monks who led the Buddhist world. There are as many as five great monks, including Hwaneung, who served as the second sect during Japanese colonial rule, Manam, the first sect of the Jogye Order, and Mukdam, the first sect of the Taego Order, and more recently, the sect of Seoongdang. If you go up the hiking trail, there are many hermitages. Yaksaam, Unmunam, and Cheonjinam have outstanding scenery. Yaksaam, located 20 minutes away from the temple entrance, is like an observatory and offers a panoramic view of Baekyangsa Temple, surrounded by mountains. Inside the scenic area and across from it are a colony of 5,000 nutmeg trees, evergreen trees of the subtropical zone, which are designated as natural monuments. In the 0.5km section leading from the parking lot to the temple, there are over 3,000 giant Quercus trees that are hundreds of years old. Therefore, iron trees and bija forest are perfect for forest bathing.
