Deogyusan National Park, which extends south from the Sobaek Mountain Range, spans two provinces and four counties in Jeonbuk and Gyeongnam, and was designated as the 10th national park in 1975. Deogyusan Mountain, named after a generous mother mountain with many virtues, is the fourth highest mountain in Korea (1,614m), has a very high conservation value for the subalpine ecosystem, and is visited by more than 1.5 million visitors annually. In the 36km valley from Najetongmun, Seolcheon-myeon, Muju-gun to Hyangjeokbong Peak, there are numerous spectacular views, including the 33 scenic spots of Muju Gucheon-dong, which are made up of 13 towers, 10 ponds, and several waterfalls, as well as Yongchu Falls and Chilyeon Falls.
< br />Numerous ruins, including Jeoksangsanseong Fortress (historic site) and Anguksa Temple's Gwaebul (treasure), are spread out here and there, and the scenery is beautiful, including a group of rare yew trees. About 1,623 species of animals and 1,067 species of plants are diversely distributed here, forming a spectacular sight. The azaleas are especially famous in spring, and the cool valley of Gucheon-dong Valley is a perfect midsummer summer resort. In addition, the daylily colony at Deogyupyeongjeon is spectacular in the summer, and the autumn foliage and snowy landscape in winter create a truly mysterious atmosphere of nature. There are historical sites such as Najetongmun Gate, Jeoksangsanseong Fortress, and Hoguksa Temple Site, and temples such as Anguksa Temple, Baekryunsa Temple, Wontongsa Temple, Songgyesa Temple, and Inwoldam Temple. Deogyudae Campground, located in the middle of the 33 scenic spots in Gucheon-dong, is the largest among national parks and is the pride of Deogyusan National Park. The Hyanghyangbong Peak of Deogyusan Mountain is called the subalpine zone. The subalpine zone is a relatively high altitude area (1500-2500m). There is a lot of wind and rain, low temperatures, and few sunny days, so tall trees cannot grow well. Various wild flowers endure the wind and cold and maintain a balance with nature. This refers to an area with high ecological value, like a paradise on earth. The subalpine zone has excellent open views, a variety of wild flowers, and a cool climate, but if damaged by visitors, natural recovery is almost impossible, so all visitors must pay attention. |

Entry control period: In order to protect the national park from forest fires during the dry season in spring and fall when the risk of forest fires is high, a forest fire caution concentration period is set and some trails with a high risk of forest fires are controlled.
