The 5.16 Road is the first national road opened in Jeju and connects Jeju City and Seogwipo. If you follow the winding road toward Seogwipo starting from Hallasan Seongpanak Rest Area, you will see a forest tunnel with evergreen and deciduous trees surrounding the road in an arch shape around the road extending from the 2.6km point to about 1.2km. At the northern entrance to the forest tunnel, there is a sign with the phrase, ‘The road is more beautiful if you drive slowly.’ The road here is narrow and has many curves, so be careful as there is a risk of accidents, and drive slowly to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the forest tunnel.
Located at the foot of Hallasan Mountain in Jeju, you can see various aspects of nature throughout the four seasons. Trees that extend out from both sides of the road and curve as if embracing the sky provide cool shade in the summer, red leaves in the fall, and dazzling snow scenes in the winter. This is a forest tunnel where you can feel the four seasons of Jeju while slowly running through a beautiful mountain tunnel.
