From 1948 to 1950, Kim Il-sung visited Hwajinpo as a summer resort with his family, including his wife Kim Jong-suk, son Kim Jong-il, and daughter Kim Gyeong-hui. This is proven by a photo taken in August 1948 of Kim Jong-il, who was 6 years old at the time, with his arm around the son of Major General Lebezev, the commander of the Soviet Army's political command, at the entrance to the villa. Kim Il-sung's villa was originally built by missionary Sherwood Hall and his wife in 1938 by Weber, an architect in exile in Germany. It was built as a stone building with one underground floor and two above-ground floors, and is quite splendid for a building of its time.

Kim Il-sung's villa contains photos showing the appearance of the old villa, as well as a reception area used by Kim Il-sung's family. Various keepsakes, including sets, were made into models and displayed. Kim Il-sung's villa, located at the foot of a coastal mountain, was built immediately after liberation and was frequently used by Kim Il-sung with his son Kim Jong-il and daughter Kim Gyeong-hui until before the Korean War. It was originally a stone structure with one underground floor and two above-ground floors, but was greatly damaged during the war and was rebuilt by the Army in 1964. The building was demolished and rebuilt into the current one-story building.

Among the spectacular views of Kim Il-sung's villa, one that cannot be missed is the rocky island called Geumgudo Island, located 300 meters from Hwajinpo Beach. Geumgudo Island is shaped like a turtle. It looks similar, and in the fall season, the bamboo forests growing on this island turn yellow and the entire island turns golden. Unlike Kim Il-sung's villa located on a coastal hill overlooking the East Sea, Rhee Syngman's villa overlooks only Hwajinpo Lake and does not have a view of the sea, and is located about 1km away from each other.
