Eulji Observatory is located on the ridge of Gachilbong Peak, which forms a coastal basin, 27km northeast of Yanggu and 1km south of the Military Demarcation Line. On December 12, 1987, the president of the Federation of Korean Industries visited the Army Unit 1862 and proposed the construction of a security education center, and the following year, on May 31, 1988, 125 million won was donated to the unit, leading to the construction of the Eulji Observatory. It is a front-line security tourist site at 1,049m above sea level, offering a panoramic view of the Naegeumgang River, including Mt. Birobong, and plays an important role as a security education center with over 100,000 tourists visiting it every year. This observatory is a two-story concrete slab building with a height of 10m and a floor space of 98 pyeong. Yanggu-gun completed paving the 7km military operation road to the observatory, which was used as a military operation road, and day-day entry by tourists has been allowed since February 1998.
