GANGWON-DO WEATHER
Goseokjeong (孤石亭) is one of the Eight Scenic Views of Cheorwon and the most scenic spot in Cheorwon. Water as clear as jade swirls between both sides of an oddly shaped rock about 10 meters high in the middle of the Hantangang River. During the reign of King Jinpyeong of Silla, a two-story pavilion measuring about 10 pyeong was built in the middle of the Hantangang River and named Goseokjeong. This pavilion and the valley around Goseokbawi Rock are collectively called Goseokjeong. Goseokjeong, designated as a local monument, is said to be a place where King Jinpyeong during the Silla Dynasty and King Chungsuk during the Goryeo Dynasty visited and played. The reason why Goseokjeong became more famous is because it became known as the background for Im Kkeok-jeong (?-1562) during the reign of King Myeongjong of the Joseon Dynasty.

Cheorwon is a lava plateau formed by basalt eruptions during the Pleistocene period of the Quaternary Period of the Cenozoic Era. As the Hantangang River flowed from the north-northeast to the south-southwest, erosion occurred, forming granite columnar joints and vertical cliffs here and there. Cheorwon, which was located at the center of the Chugaryeong Rescue Base and later became a transit point for the Gyeongwon Line, was said to have been a good place for Im Keokjeong to stay in seclusion during his lifetime, so he built a high stone wall across from Goseokjeong and used it as a fortress base. At that time, it is said that he passed through here from the Hamgyeong Province region and protested against the corrupt social class by seizing tribute to be paid to the government and providing relief to the poor. The pavilion was destroyed during the Korean Uprising. In 1971, with the help of local officials, a 10-pyeong two-story pavilion was rebuilt, but it was lost in a flood in 1996 and rebuilt in 1997.

Even now, there is a natural stone chamber where Im Kkeok-jeong is said to have hidden in the huge 20-meter-tall Giambong Peak located in the center of the river, and a stone castle remains on the other side. This place has a beautiful scenery and is one of the eight scenic views of Cheorwon, making it a national tourist site that attracts tourists all year round. Jiktang Waterfall is located about 2km upstream from here and Sundam is located about 2km downstream. It is equipped with a large lawn plaza and a multi-purpose playground, making it a popular destination for tourists at any time of the year. In addition, there is an Iron Triangle battlefield management office, making it an optimal tourist destination where you can enjoy security tours all year round and migratory bird tours in the winter.
