The gateway you must pass through to get to the Unification Observatory is the Unification Security Park. There is a Horim Guerilla Battle Monument above the parking lot toward Donghae-daero. It was created to commemorate the Horim guerrillas who sacrificed their lives while preventing the invasion of South Korea by North Korean armed guerrillas just before the Korean War. The statue of a guerrilla soldier holding a torch high at the top of the monument shows his indomitable spirit.
