1100도로변에 위치한 거린사슴 동측으로 이어져 있는 오름으로, 거린사슴과 1100도로의 가파른 고갯길을 사이에 두고 갈리어 있는 별개의 원추형 화산체이다. 거린사슴 중턱의 1100도로가에서는 운전자들이 쉴 수 있는 간이 휴게공간이 마련되어 있어 제주도 남서부지역의 풍광은 물론 서귀포시에서 부터 모슬포 해안까지의 바다경치를 만끽할 수 있는 전망대가 되고 있다. 갯거리오름으로 불리우고 있는 오름이 한림읍 명월리 문수동 동쪽에도 있다.
