한라산 국립공원 성판악 휴게소 5.16도로 남쪽 숲터널 길의 동수악교 동쪽에 위치한 오름으로, 산정부에는 둘레가 약 220m쯤 되는 산정화구호가 있다. 주요식생으로 화구호 둘레에 상록수와 낙엽수가 울창하게 우거져 있으며 호자덩굴, 노루발, 습지식물들이 자라고 있다.
오름 남서사면은 급경사를 이루며 계곡으로 이어지는 상록수림의 울창한 숲으로 여름새우난, 사철란, 보춘화 등 갖가지 야생란이 식생하고 있다.
