황우지해안은 제주도의 대표적인 관광명소 가운데 하나인 외돌개에서 도보로 5분 정도면 닿는 거리에 있다. 평소에도 수많은 관광객이 들락거리지만 검은 현무암이 마치 요새처럼 둘러쳐진 황우지해안은 마음먹고 찾지 않는 이상 쉽게 눈에 띄지 않는다. 올레 7코스 시작점 표식 사이로 난 길을 따라 내려가면 황우지해안 전적비가 서 있는 바닷가 절벽에 닿는다. 황우지해안은 예전 무장공비가 침투해 전투를 벌였던 곳이기도 하다.
